Rose Dick Wandel, Lifelong Chicagoan born September 10, 1920 to Lena and Harry Dick sharing life with her loving sister Edith (Sis) Benas. Blessedly married Joseph Wandel in 1942, becoming mother to David (Mary,) Joyce (late Joel Alston), and Barton (Janet Resnick). Enjoyed being grandmother to five, great grandmother to seven and proud aunt. She entered adulthood equipped with a two-year business degree and worked as an efficient and effective administrative assistant to many. After family, her most valued role was as an active community member and leader with goals of improving social justice and quality of life. A few of her many achievements included presidential terms at the North River Commission, developing and implementing a senior meds safety program, facilitating the donation of funds and planning that brought Chicago its downtown Cancer Survivors Park on the lakefront and converting the old city municipal TB sanitarium into the multi-use North Park Village site. She was an early inductee to the Chicago Senior Citizens Academy and recipient of the National Council for Jewish Women Hannah G. Solomon Award for those who have changed the lives of others through leadership and service. Services Monday, 2:30 p.m. at Shalom Memorial Park Jewish Funeral Home, 1700 W.
